To prepare for this project, please note that there are various dates and times, from November 4-December 1, 2019; hence, we will need dedicated individuals who can commit to their volunteer times. Our “Gacha’ si Santa” 2K/5K is a Chamorro Cultural Christmas Run and is the first of its kind, and will take place on December 1, 2019. From each volunteer, we will need at least two days of assistance at our early registration table from November 4-22, 2019; this will be located at Sagan Kotturan Chamoru Cultural Center, form 3-6pm.
In order to earn service learning hours, a reflection will need to be turned in to a teacher for input into Power School. The reflection should address: What did you do? What did you learn? In what way was this service to your community?
As a volunteer participant, students will have first had experience to be a part of an event that is first of its kind; wherein, in addition to the usual mind, body and health concepts that most run/walks are centered on, our “Gacha’ si Santa” 2K/5K Christmas Run will be comprised of Chamorro cultural and environmentally friendly aspects. Moreover, it would be great for students to focus on ways that large events can be beneficial to an island and its people for the present and the future.
