Thrive: Coalition for a Drug-Free Dededo

Be a part of YOUTHrive, a youth-led coalition! It takes all of us to have a vibrant, empowered, and resilient community. As a young leader, you have the ability to support and mobilize the community to prevent our youth from being exposed to drugs and alcohol.

We offer different ways to volunteer depending on your level of availability and interest in being a part of the coalition! There are many ways to view the world. Thrive Coalition ensures that our strategies values, respects, and accepts the differences of all people in our community.

Activity Instruction:

Thrive With Us! Become a youth leader. Earn service learning hours while gaining leadership skills that help you get further in your academic career. Our activities and events provide positive outlets for youth that encourage them to live a healthy, vibrant, and drug- and alcohol-free life!

  • Be a member of this youth-led coalition. YOUTHrive members will create and put into action activities and events for other youth!
  • Or you can also volunteer while learning more on what Thrive is about.

Reflection Instruction:

Reflect on the drug and alcohol issues that has impacted our community, specifically the young population.

  1. How do these issues look like or operate in our community?
  2. What types of impact do youth experience because of these drug and alcohol issues?
  3. During your time with the coalition, what did you do to help address the drug and alcohol use among your peers?
  4. How did your activity address or help in the prevention of the drug and alcohol use among youth?
  5. What will you do to continue in helping substance use prevention? (Could be within yourself, your family and/or friends, or the community)

HS – Health Education Standard 4: Interpersonal Communication Demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks

  • Students will learn how environmental factors can affect individual health by reviewing existing data on substance use.
  • Students will learn to conduct a needs assessment to collect data.
  • Students will conduct a resource assessment in their community., identifying the existing resources that already exist, as well as the gaps in services.
  • Students will use the data to identify risk and protective factors, develop culturally competent plan and data-driven strategies to address the local conditions, implement the strategies, and evaluate the efficacy of their data-driven strategies.
  • Students will enhance their leadership skills by receiving training on several topics, to include: substance use prevention, digital media with focus on prevention messaging, public speaking, effective leadership, community mobilization, problem analysis, action planning, and evaluating outcomes.
