Sanctuary Incorporated 2019 "Too Cool To Do Drugs Youth Conference"

Sanctuary Incorporated of Guam will be hosting its annual “Too Cool To Do Drugs Youth Conference on Saturday September 14, 2019. This year's theme is "Choose Life, Your Positive High". The focus of this year's conference is to prevent future instance of drugs / alcohol abuse. The conference will feature guest speakers, topics on prevention education and awareness to include hands on and fun filled activities that will give you students a chance to take active roles in the conference and share with their communities. The conference will be held at the Pacific Star Hotel from the hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and breakfast/ lunch will be provided.

Preparation Instruction:
All students are invited to attend this free event, but students need to get permission from a teacher to attend the conference for the purpose of earning service learning hours. All students would need to fill out a registration form and submit it to Sanctuary no later than Thursday September 12, 2019. This conference is limited to 200 students so it's important to submit registrations as early as possible. All students need to report to the Pacific Star Hotel on Saturday September 14, 2019 no later than 8:00 am and must sign in with the Sanctuary table.

Activity Instruction:
The focus of this year's conference is to prevent future instance of drugs / alcohol abuse. The conference will feature guest speakers, topics on prevention education and awareness to include hands-on and fun-filled activities that will give you students a chance to take active roles in the conference and share with your communities.  In order for this to be considered "service" learning, you need to explain how you shared what you learned to others in your communities (social media, phone calls, emails, talks). 
 

Reflection Instruction:
In order to earn service learning hours, a reflection needs to be turned in to a teacher who can input the hours into Power School. You need to address: What did you do at the conference? What did you learn? How was this an example of public service?

Objective: Students will be expected to extend lessons taught in their classes as it applies toward developing and supporting Sanctuary’s Too Cool To Do Drugs Conference in promoting a better quality life for our island’s youth. 

HEALTH EUCATION
