Students under the age of 18 must have their parent/ legal guardian fill out the Sågan Tinanom Volunteer Form, available here: https://www.sagantinanom.com/forms/
Forms will be collected prior to entering the Nature Park on the first visit.
Please wear a hat, closed-toe shoes, and clothing that is appropriate for working in a forest setting; we also recommend bringing mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.
Plant Survey students will require a smart phone or digital camera in order to photograph findings.
Meet at the Island Girl Power compound at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. You will be given an introduction to the Nature Park, as well as a safety briefing. Follow the Sågan Tinanom staff member to the Nature Park and carefully listen to his/her instructions.
In order to earn service learning hours, you will need to turn in a reflection to a teacher who can input the hours into your Power School. You will need to address: What did you do? What did you learn? How was this a benefit to you in terms of your physical fitness? How was this a service to the community?
Standard 2: Life Science
Students understand the diversity and unity of living organisms, the living environment, and principles of ecology.
BI.2.27: Understand and explain the significance of the introduction of species, such as the brown tree snake and other invasive species into Guam’s ecosystem, and describe the consequent harm to native species and the environment in general.
