Tower for Humanity & Micronesia Mall Charity Build

Tower for Humanity & Micronesia Mall Charity Build

Tower For Humanity is a team committed to creating extraordinary, larger-than-life structures made from toy timber, canned goods, and other items. Our mission is to benefit nonprofits on Guam by generating community donations and raising awareness. We do this by crafting spectacular, eye-catching installations that combine creativity, engineering, and fun. Through these impressive displays, we aim to highlight important social and humanitarian causes and bring attention to underfunded groups in need of support.

Volunteer to help build a 30-foot tall toy timber log replica of New York City’s Empire State Building at the Micronesia Mall to benefit three of Guam’s nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving children in need. Learn about Alee Shelters, Harvest House, and Victim Advocates Reaching Out (VARO) in the Mall’s Center Court while you help us bring this tower to life!

    1. Students will gain cultural perspectives on content-related issues or topics and learn about a famous “landmark” structure.
    2. Students will research and identify the needs and challenges faced by various nonprofits on Guam, gaining insight into the social and humanitarian issues affecting Guam and the community.
    3. Students will work effectively in teams, developing communication, leadership, and collaborative skills necessary for successful project completion.
    4. Students will engage in creative design processes, using unconventional materials (toy timber, canned goods, etc.) to craft visually appealing and structurally sound installations.
    5. Students will engage with the community to raise awareness and generate donations, learning how to effectively communicate and advocate for social causes.
    6. Students will evaluate the impact of their projects on the target nonprofits and the community, reflecting on the effectiveness of their efforts and identifying areas for improvement.
    7. Students will acquire practical experience in building and construction led by a team of builders.

Activity Instruction:
  1.  Help organize toy timber logs alongside the Tower for Humanity team to add to the structure.
  2. Help share this wonderful project with your friends and family on social media. Encourage them to come to the mall and see the tower for themselves.
  3. Get extra brochures from the non-profit tables so you are able to add them to your reflection and give them to your teachers.

Reflection Instruction:

Give some thought as you work on building the 30-foot toy timber log replica of the Empire State Building, I want you to reflect on the impact that both the project and the event have on the community. Think about how your efforts in creating this replica help raise awareness and support for children in need through the three nonprofits involved. Consider the connections between the educational videos about the Empire State Building and the work of the nonprofits, and how understanding the building’s significance and the mission of these organizations can deepen your appreciation for both the structure and the cause. Ultimately, reflect on the positive change you can contribute to through creativity, teamwork, and community involvement.
Basically, address:
What did you do?
What did you learn?
How was this a service?
How do you think this project made a difference in improving life in these communities?
