Ideal for students interested in teaching or social services. The Scope of volunteer work will involve supervising activities, teaching a class or providing mentorship to a young IGP Member ages 7-14yrs. An example of classes that we are looking for are art, cooking, automotive, music, theater, computer, book clubs, dance, cultural arts and so much more. Our location is primarily at the IGP Kurason Ysengsong Compound in Dededo, community outreaches are possible. Dependable transportation is a requirement. Preparation Instruction:
  • Health- Human Behavior, Essay on the effects of mentoring and positive role modeling in shaping our children and their participation in risky behavior.
  • Science- Review scientific studies on Guam’s Epidemiological Profile to justify our prevention efforts at Island Girl Power.
  • English- Essay or report on why this project is important, how did your involvement help in the overall mission of Island Girl Power? How did completing the project make you feel?
  • Social Studies- What effects does Empowerment and Prevention Efforts have on the Civic Engagement of a community?

Learning Standards/Objectives:
  • To foster a greater knowledge of the purpose of our community program and to expand students’ awareness of the social issues facing our youth today.
  • To build leadership in our high school students in order to provide our IGP Members with positive role models.
