Guam Department of Agriculture Planting Events

Guam Department of Agriculture Planting Events

The Guam Department of Agriculture performs plantings to help reforest Guam all throughout the island. Most of our plantings this year will be located in the southern portion of the island. These plantings help reduce erosion, protect both people and the environment from wildland fires, and also provide habitat to Guam’s fauna.

Preparation Instruction:
Contact Patrick Keeler at info below to let him know you are coming and to get permission forms, waivers, etc.
Bring closed toed shoes, resuable water bottle, and sun protection.

Activity Instruction:
You will be planting trees along side Guam’s Forestry professionals and other volunteers. This involves using dibble sticks to put potted plants into the ground. We are hoping to put in over 10k this season alone!

Reflection Instruction:
What did you do? What did you learn about Guam’s environment and the importance of trees. Did you see any new parts of the island that made you want to continue restoration / environmental protection work while planting?

Learning Standards/Objectives:
The goal of the project is to reforest portions of southern Guam that have been negatively impacted by continuous arson. By increasing tree cover, we can also increase native plant populations, aesthetics, and both human and ecosystem health.
