Sanctuary Incorporated of Guam will be hosting it's "Too Cool To Do Drugs Youth Conference. This year's theme is "Choose Life, Your Positive High". The focus of this year's conference is to prevent future instance of drugs / alcohol abuse. The conference will feature guest speakers, topics on prevention education and awareness to include hands on and fun filled activities that will give you students a chance to take active roles in the conference and share with their communities. The conference will be held at the Pacific Star Hotel and Spa from the hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and breakfast/ lunch will be provided.
High School students will be expected to extend lessons taught in their classes as it applies toward developing and supporting Sanctuary's Too Cool To Do Drugs Conference in promoting a better quality of life for our island youth.
Guam DOE Health Standard:Health Advocacy
Work cooperatively as an advocate for improving personal, family, and community health.
1. Students to report to Pacific Star Hotel no later than 8:00 a.m.
2. Sign in with Sanctuary registration table. Make sure registration form is filled out prior to conference
3. Students to wear appropriate attire, i.e., jeans, t-shirt and shoes
a. Boys: NO tank tops, t-shirts advertising alcohol/drugs or any inappropriate language/prints/displays, flip flops, bandanas.
b. GIRLS: NO spaghetti straps, flip flops, short-shorts, tube top, and/or revealing clothes
4. Students will obtain permission from a respective teacher and work with the teacher on extending the classroom lesson to this event.
Students will be required to complete the following:
Preparation Sanctuary's Too Cool To Do Drugs Conference.
Activity Students will share their learning with their peers in a classroom setting. They need to arrange this time with a teacher, who can verify this activity. They can choose the way that they share this: an essay, a poem, a poster, a play, a video, a work of art, etc.
Reflection Students will reflect on the conference and the sharing. Upload project to the Service Learning website and also use it as evidence of reflection to the teacher who will approve their hours.
Celebration Student will receive a certificate of completion when their reflection is uploaded to the service learning website.
