  • Description

This Come help us clean up the illegal dumpsite at Eagle's Field in Mangilao. For more information about the 2016 GICC, please visit http://bsp3.guam.gov/guam-coastal-management-program/guam-international-coastal-cleanup-2/.

    Career Pathway/Field

    Objective

The volunteers will help to improve their public lands and understand the cause and effect of illegal dumping and littering on the environment and our community, develop a responsible attitude and habits to protect the beauty of our island environment by disposing of waste properly and thinking about limiting the amount of waste we generate. Volunteers will be able to disseminate information from the experience and serve as positive role models to help spread awareness of responsible waste disposal and cultivate recycling habits.

    Instructions

Bring your own reusable bottle. We will provide water in a dispenser.

Sign in and out with Phil Cruz, point of contact.

The attached Waiver forms must be signed if students under 18 will not be attending with their parents.

Students will earn 1 hour for every hour of service action involved in the cleanup. They will earn their additional 6th hour upon completion of their reflection. Sample reflection questions: In what way was the Coastal Cleanup a service activity? What did you learn? (Example: what kinds of trash did you clean up? What damage does trash to do to the land and the ocean?) What message will you give to others about littering and pollution? Why should we care about littering?

    Warnings/Notices

Please wear close-toed shoes and sunblock (eco-friendly version preferred). Dress comfortably as it may be hot and it may rain. We highly recommend you bring a hat and sunglasses.
