In-house service learning for students in Sinot Diaz's Chamorro Language and Culture classes
Curators of Museums and Preservation work
To celebrate the Chamorro Culture and Language through perpetuation, revitilization, and preservation for future generations. By having an on-campus museum, students will be engaged in creating a "special place" at Okkodo High School during Gupot Chamorro on April 1, 2016
Students must sign up on or before April 1, 2016 in order to gain service learning hours. Students must also sign a seperate sign-up sheet before March 31, 2016 in order to volunteer hours during April 1, 2016. All items brought in must have the students' name, period and contact information on the item.
Students in Sinot Diaz's 4th Period class can also obtain service learning credit IF THEY DID NOT SIGN UP FOR CHAMORRO WORD OF THE DAY service learining opportunity.
Students must be willing to help set-up the Chamorro Museum on March 31, 2016 and break-down on April 1, 2016 after 2:00pm. Students must arrange for parents to pick them up afterschool before 3:30pm.

IN HOUSE SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY
Sinot Diaz's 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th Period classes have the opportunity to gain service learning hours (8 hours max) to
1. Bring in any Chamorro Cultural Artiifact from home into the classroom to be showcased during GUPOT CHAMORRO
2. SET-UP H17 for a Chamorro Cultural Museum on March 31, 2016 afterschool (2:00-3:00pm)
3. MAN the LIVING CHAMORRO MUESEUM before and during the celebration of GUPOT CHAMORRO @ Okkodo on April 1, 2016 from (7:00am to 2:00pm)
4. BREAK-DOWN Museum after school on April 1, 2016 (2:00pm-3:00pm)
Items from home can include: acho atupat, mamfok items (weaved items), balembaotuyan, fruits and vegetables from the island, lusong and pitut siha, chongka, shells, mestisa, books, audio/video materials, Chamorro High Chiefs and living manaquins, etc. Please see Sinot Diaz for any questions regarding these artifacts.
N.B. Students who do bring in artifacts from home are responsible to place a tag on the item to be catalogued and are responsible for drop off and pick-up of items. Students will have to sign up to "MAN the MUSEUM on the DAY OF GUPOT CHAMORRO" and must sign in with Sinot Diaz for the times that they will volunteer to guard the artifacts.
Students who do sign up for this service learning event are expected to write a one page reflection about their experience and how this event ties into our lesson plans for 4th Quarter. REFLECTIONS WILL BE DUE on APRIL 29, 2016
Comments about the Project Location
Classroom will be locked on March 31, 2016 after 3:30pm for security reasons. Okkodo High School and Sinot Jonathan Diaz are not responsible for lost or stolen items. This is all voluntary of which students will voluteer their time and items for the museum for purposes of education. This event is free and open to the public who will be visiting Okkodo High on April 1, 2016 between the hours of 7:00am to 2:00pm.
